Inclusion & SEND

Every child. Every opportunity. Every achievement.

A very warm welcome to the Inclusion and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) section of our Farington Primary School website.

At Farington Primary School, every child matters, every child is valued and every child has the right to achieve and succeed. We recognise that every child is unique, with their own strengths, interests, experiences and individual needs. We are committed to creating an inclusive school community where every child feels safe, respected, valued and able to participate fully in school life.

Inclusion is not something that sits separately from the life of our school; it is fundamental to who we are and how we work. We believe that children should never be defined by a label, diagnosis or additional need. Instead, we focus on understanding each child as an individual, identifying what they need to thrive and putting the right support and opportunities in place to enable them to reach their potential.

Our approach to inclusion is underpinned by our school mission, vision and values. We encourage every child to aim high and aspire to be the best that they can be, while working to maximise the potential of all. Our commitment to kindness, honesty and respect shapes the way we build relationships, support one another and celebrate difference across our school community.

High expectations for every child

We have high expectations for all our children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Having SEND should not be a barrier to achievement, participation or belonging.

We believe that children with SEND should have access to a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum that provides both breadth and depth, alongside the appropriate adaptations and support they need to learn successfully. We do not lower our expectations; instead, we carefully consider how best to enable each child to access learning, overcome barriers and make meaningful progress.

Our teachers use their knowledge of individual children to adapt teaching, resources, environments and approaches where appropriate. We seek to identify needs as early as possible and respond through a graduated approach of assess, plan, do and review, ensuring that support is purposeful, monitored and responsive to children's changing needs.

We recognise that children may experience barriers to learning for many different reasons, and these barriers may change over time. We therefore continually review children's needs, progress and wellbeing so that our provision can respond effectively.

A culture of belonging

We want every child to feel that Farington is their school and that they belong here.

We actively promote a culture of kindness, honesty and respect in which difference is understood, valued and celebrated. We encourage positive behaviour and respectful relationships, helping children to understand the needs and perspectives of others.

We believe that every child should be able to make a valued contribution to school life. Whether through learning, sport, creativity, leadership, friendship or wider school opportunities, we seek to ensure that children with SEND are fully included in the life of our school and have opportunities to develop confidence, independence and self-esteem.

We celebrate children's individual strengths and achievements and recognise that success looks different for every child. Through a positive approach, encouragement and carefully considered goals, we help children to recognise what they can achieve and develop the confidence to take their next steps.

Working in partnership with families

We know that parents and carers know their children best. Strong relationships with families are therefore central to our approach to SEND and inclusion.

We work in partnership with parents and carers to understand children's strengths, needs, experiences and aspirations. We listen to families, involve them in decision-making and value their contribution when planning and reviewing support.

Where appropriate, we also work with external professionals and services to ensure that children receive coordinated support. This may include colleagues from health, education, social care and other specialist services.

Our aim is always to work collaboratively so that everyone involved in supporting a child has a shared understanding of their needs, the outcomes we are working towards and the strategies that will help them succeed.

Supporting progress and potential

Our SEND provision is focused on outcomes, progress and the individual potential of every child.

We carefully monitor children's learning, progress, attendance, behaviour and wellbeing so that we can identify where additional support may be needed. We use assessment and professional knowledge to identify barriers to learning and determine appropriate next steps.

Where additional provision is required, we ensure that support is reviewed regularly and adjusted when necessary. We want every child to develop not only academically, but also socially, emotionally and personally.

We recognise that success is not simply measured through attainment. For some children, success may include developing independence, building confidence, improving communication, developing friendships, managing emotions, becoming more resilient or participating more fully in school life. All of these achievements matter.

Our commitment to inclusion

At Farington Primary School, we are committed to:

  • Valuing every child as an individual, recognising and celebrating their strengths, interests and achievements.

  • Maintaining high expectations for all children, including those with SEND.

  • Maximising potential for all, ensuring that children are supported to achieve the best possible outcomes.

  • Identifying needs early and responding appropriately to barriers to learning.

  • Providing high-quality, inclusive teaching as the foundation of our SEND provision.

  • Adapting teaching and provision to meet individual needs without unnecessarily limiting children's opportunities or aspirations.

  • Providing appropriate additional support where a child requires provision beyond ordinarily available classroom support.

  • Monitoring and reviewing provision to ensure that support is effective and has a positive impact.

  • Listening to children and young people, ensuring their views, wishes and feelings are considered wherever appropriate.

  • Working closely with parents and carers, recognising the importance of family knowledge and partnership.

  • Working collaboratively with external professionals and services where additional expertise or support is required.

  • Removing barriers to participation, ensuring children with SEND can access the curriculum, wider school life and enrichment opportunities.

  • Promoting kindness, honesty and respect, creating a community where difference is valued and everyone feels that they belong.

  • Celebrating progress and achievement, recognising the individual journey and successes of every child.

Our SEND Information Report

We want our families to have clear, accessible information about how we identify, assess and support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

Our SEND Information Report provides more detailed information about our SEND provision, including how we identify and assess needs, the support available within school, how we work with parents and carers, and how we work with external agencies and services.

Further information can be found in our SEND Information Report below.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child's learning, development or additional needs, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are always happy to listen, work in partnership with you and discuss how we can best support your child.

At Farington, our ambition is clear: every child should be given the opportunity to aim high, maximise their potential, feel a strong sense of belonging and achieve success in their own unique way.

We respect the fact that children:

· have different educational needs and aspirations;

· require a range of strategies to facilitate learning;

· acquire, assimilate and communicate information at different rates;

· need a range of different teaching approaches and experiences.

It is extremely important to us that, as experts in your child, we value the impact on outcomes of co-production with parents and professionals.

Our Tailored Curriculum Offer

Here at Farington Primary School we are committed to ensuring that all of our children have access to a broad and balanced curriculum whatever their gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, needs or abilities.

We work very closely together as a staff and throughout the Rowan Learning Trust by taking positive action to ensure that our settings make appropriate provision through curriculum planning, delivery and assessment for children of differing abilities, alongside encouraging children to be involved in their own learning and to be aware of their targets.

Please see the links below to how our curriculum is tailored to meet the needs of al of our children, including those with SEND.
