School Meals
We are fortunate to have a modern, well-equipped kitchen on site, which allows us to provide hot, fresh meals to our children each day. Working with Lancashire Country Catering Service, we offer a wide choice at an affordable price.
Nut Free Policy We have a number of children with nut allergies in school. With a view to keeping our children safe and well, we operate a nut-free policy and therefore it is essential parents check the ingredients lists on items included either as a snack or in a packed lunch. Most frequent nut products include peanut butter, Nutella and nuts within cereal bars.
Dietary Requirements & Additional Choices
Our kitchen staff will always endeavour to meet the needs of children with dietary requirements. Please inform us if this is the case and we will provide guidance on which meal options are appropriate and/or adaptable. Where there is a * on the menu, a vegetarian version of the dish is also available. (e.g. Quorn) Children must request this at the time of ordering.
Cost & Payment
Under the Government’s Free School Dinners Scheme, children who are in the infants (Years R, 1 & 2) are entitled to a free lunch. This is automatic and there is no need to fill in any forms.
For children within Key Stage 2, lunches are priced at just £2.70 per day and can be paid for via our ParentPay service.
Packed Lunches
A small number of children prefer to bring a packed lunch from home. This is allowed, however in an effort to promote healthy eating, we do ask that the following are not placed into lunchboxes:-
Carbonated drinks (of any kind)
Sweets
Chocolate bars
Please note that there are no refrigeration facilities available, although we ensure that all lunch trollies are placed in areas away from direct sunlight.
Free School Meals
If you are in receipt of the following benefits, you may be entitled to Free School Meals. Please talk to us and we will explain the process of claiming to you. Please note that it is really important that you claim for Free School meals even if you do not intend for your child to have a meal every day. It is also important to claim if your child already receives a meal through the Infant Free Meal Scheme. School receives additional funding for each eligible child and we are sometimes able to offer discounts on activities and educational visits as a result of the additional funding.
Your child may be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:
Income Support
income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
income-related Employment and Support Allowance
support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
Universal Credit – if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
