Reception

Welcome to our Reception Class 2025 - 2026

We are delighted to begin this journey with you and your child!

In Reception, Mrs Jennison will be the Class Teacher, supported by our wonderful team of Teaching Assistants: Miss Parker and Mrs Cowburn. Together, they will be guiding, supporting, and encouraging your child/children throughout the year.

PE will take place on Mondays and Fridays. On these days, children should come to school wearing their PE kit. If your child wears earrings, please ensure they are removed before the school day begins.

Reading books will be changed in school every Friday. We encourage you to spend some special time sharing these stories together at home and talking about them.

Library books are issued each Wednesday and can be exchanged during class time.

Don’t forget to visit our class page, where you can keep up to date with all the exciting learning and activities happening in Reception.

Our First Week at Farington

😊😢😡 The Colour Monster 😱😌💕

We have explored our feelings this half term during our PSHCE sessions. We used 'The Colour Monster' as our focus text which has helped us to understand the different ways we might feel. We used coloured card to help us explore how we feel in different situations and we made green monsters in our play-dough, thinking about when we feel calm. During our Drawing Club sessions, we designed monsters in a colour of our choice, using that colour to represent how we felt. We have also explored some new vocabulary such as relaxed, anxious, loving and smiley and to help us communicate our feelings.

🍂🥾 Autumn Treasures🍂🥾

Reception have started their Seasonal Changes learning this half term by looking at what happens in Autumn. We read the story, 'Pip's Autumn Treasures' and then headed out for a welly walk around school to collect lots of Autumn objects to help Pip decorate for his Autumn party.

We then used our Autumn finds to complete lots of activities in our outdoor area. We made repeating patterns, Nature Pumpkins and leaf rubbings to explore the lovely patterns on the leaves.

🎵 📱Music Through the Decades - 2020s Pop Music 🎵 📱

We absolutely loved our first themed week in school and we were so excited to learn and enjoy modern music from the 2020s.

Some of the things we did this week ...

🎵Listened to some music from current artists such as Harry Styles, Dua Lipa and the K-Pop Demon Hunters.

📱Explored different ways of listening to music such as Spotify, TikTok and YouTube. We compared this how people used to listen to music using equipment such as vinyl records, cassette tapes and CD's.

💃🕺Learnt some dance moves to one of our favourite songs - Golden by the K-Pop Demon Hunters

🌈 Explored the current fashion trends looking at neon, bright colours and funky trainers and hoodies.

What a great week we had. The children celebrated their learning by performing a dance in assembly on Friday.

🚀 Reception’s Space Adventures

This week, Reception have been learning all about Space!

• We discovered the story of Neil Armstrong and his historic first steps on the Moon.

• We created our own moon sand using corn flour and baby oil and then used our own astronauts to make footprints. We then dropped rocks from different heights to make craters.

  • We also enjoyed reading the fun story Aliens in Underpants Save the World 👽

  • Afterwards, we became designers and created colourful posters to help track down the missing pants that the cheeky aliens had taken!

✨ What an exciting mix of imagination, storytelling, and space adventures! ✨
