Cultural Week - China
In Year One we have celebrated Cultural Week by exploring China! We wrote in mandarin, made lanterns, looked at a variety of Chinese cultures and shared lots of stories.
Science - The Five Senses
For our science topic this half term, we explored the 5 senses. We used all of these senses practically by walking round the playground to see what we could see and hear, touching different objects and even smelling and tasting a variety of foods ๐๐ซ
Our Great Fire Of London Themed Artwork!
We have been creating our own pieces of artwork, linked to the Great Fire Of London. We had to learn how to create secondary colours and mix colours to get the shades we needed. Look at some of our final pieces ๐ผ
First Aid!
We have been really lucky in Year One and have had our very own first aid session! We looked at how to apply plasters, bandages, what to do in an emergency and how to call for the emergency services. We worked really hard!๐ฉนโ๏ธ๐
The Adventures Of Egg Box Dragon
To start off our new English story 'The Adventures Of Egg Box Dragon' we have created our own egg box dragons and tried to predict what our dragon character may look like ๐ฒ
Our Visit To Imagine That!
Year One had an amazing time on their school trip at 'Imagine That!' in Liverpool. We started the day in a science room. This is where we explored all different areas of science. From the dark room, to a full water area, there was even a giant marble run. There was so much for us to do and explore. We then went on to make our very own never melting snow and then it snowed.
We then had our very own workshop, where we used our senses to explore 'dry ice' followed by making our very own super sticky slime. Then we played in slime and made our very own bath bombs.
We then spent the afternoon, exploring the role play - from hairdressers, to chefs, to construction workers, to fire fighters and being performers on stage, we really did become so many different people!
STEM Week in Year 1 โ Exploring Materials!
Year 1 had an exciting STEM Week investigating different materials and their properties! We became little scientists, testing which materials were best for making bouncing balls and building strong bridges.
First, we explored a variety of materials, feeling their textures and discussing their uses. We then tested different materials to see which made the bounciest balls, recording our observations like real scientists! Later in the week, we put our engineering skills to the test, designing and building bridges, checking to see which could hold the most weight.
It was a fantastic week of hands-on learning, problem-solving, and fun! Take a look at some of our experiments and brilliant creations! ๐๏ธ๐งชโฝ
VE Day Celebrations in Year One!
Year One had a wonderful day celebrating VE Day on Thursday 8th May. We spent the morning writing our own VE Day poems and made colourful flags to get ready for our special picnic lunch! The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about this important moment in history while taking part in fun, creative activities. We then went and had a picnic lunch with the whole school.
After our picnic lunch, we then did some work all about the importance of VE Day and how life is different today. We then spent the afternoon outdoors in the sunshine, playing some 1940's inspired games with our friends in Reception. We had a great day learning all about the importance of VE Day!
We Love Outdoor Learning!
As the weather is getting better we have spent lots of time outside exploring learning in lots of different ways!
For our maths topic 'Position and Direction' we have been looking at positional language and to practice this new vocabulary we have been outside in the playground, using our listening skills to determine where we should hide the footballs! Then we had to see if our friends could follow our instructions to find it, we tried really hard and had lots of fun.
Alien Day 2025
Year One had an out of this world experience as their classroom was taken over by aliens! To help prepare for the upcoming Phonics Screening Check, the children dressed up as aliens and practiced their sounds in the most exciting way possible. With glowing lights, space-themed decorations, and strange alien visitors the children read alien words, played phonics games, and had lots of fun while building their reading confidence. It was a fantastic day.
They also did some fantastic writing about their alien adventures and watched The Smeds and the Smoos to inspire their imaginations. It was a day packed with laughter, creativity, and confidence-building, showing that phonics really can be fun when learning is taken to another planet.
