Eco-Schools Award
The Eco-Schools programme unites young people to make realistic but dynamic change, creating positive impacts for our planet right now. Farington Primary School’s Eco Committee follows a simple, seven-step framework that empowers our pupils and staff to make a difference to our school, the local community and beyond. Schools connect their activities to three or more of the Ten Eco-Schools Topics. These topics break large, global issues like climate change into more manageable and directed themes that prompt young people to consider environmental changes that they can make in their school and everyday lives.

2. Energy | 7. School Grounds |
3. Global Citizenship | 8. Transport |

The Eco-Schools Green Flag is an internationally recognised award for excellence in environmental action and learning. In July 2024, Farington Primary School achieved its first Green Flag award, with Distinction!

The Eco-School Committee
Our Eco Council is made up of 18 members consisting of children from years 2 – 6. The committee were chosen through an application letter outlining their commitment to the environment, the committee meets every Friday and is led by Mrs Roberts. At meetings, discussions are directed towards the school Eco Action plan and we collaboratively work towards achieving targets set for the half term. Eco members take pride in the work that they do and feed back to the rest of their class, the key points of discussion after each Eco Council meeting; sometimes sharing their progress in whole school assemblies.

Environmental Review Autumn Term 2024
The Eco Council carried out an environmental review to identify areas of strength and points for development linked to the ten topics. We answered all the questions and then added up our score. This information helped us to see what we are already achieving, and what we can do better; you can read our review below.
Eco-Action Plan Autumn 2024
After carrying out our Environmental Review, we were able to identify three areas to work on – we chose: School Grounds; Marine and Energy. The Eco committee met and brainstormed ideas linked to these themes – this was then used to create Farington’s Eco Action Plan, which will be worked on throughout 2024-25.
Eco-Code
The members of the Eco Committee developed their own Eco-Code, which has been placed around school. The aim being to support the children and adults in school to remember key actions that they could undertake to contribute to looking after the environment.
